One portion of the Fire Control class is LP gas emergencies. After classroom work was completed, a practical exercise was completed on 4/7/09. A Propane cylinder prop was used to simulate a leak with fire. Two teams with hoselines approached the tank and used water streams to push the fire away from the cutoff valve so the line officer could cut it off. Back-up lines and medical personnel were also on the scene. The water does not put the gas fire out; it merely pushes the fire away from the top of the tank so the valves can be reached.LP Gas Class
