| Structure Fire on Bollinger's Loop |
Fri. Nov 27th 2009
Around 11:40pm on Friday November 27th, Brendletown Fire and Rescue was alerted to a house fire on Bollinger's Loop. Salem Fire and Rescue was alerted for a tanker and West End Fire Department was alerted for manpower. Firefighters Tyler White and Kevin Smith were some of the first to arrive and reported a "working" structure fire. Fire had already vented out a large window in the front of the residence and extended into the attic area. Engine 759 arrived as attack engine deploying two 1 3/4 hand lines. Engine 751 arrived and laid a 4 inch supply line to a hydrant 700 feet away. 752 arrived and provided a secondary water source. Captain Roy Chapman along with firefighters Tyler White and Kevin Smith made an aggressive interior attack and blacked the fire out very quickly considering the amount of fire showing upon arrival. Less than 700 gallons of water was needed for initial knockdown. Two occupants were transported to Grace Hospital by Burke County EMS for minor smoke inhalation and released. REACT assisted with traffic control. The EMS supervisor was on the scene to provide medical back-up to the firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Burke County Fire Marshal's office, but appears accidental.
